Choosing a Shingle: Questions Beyond the Brand Name

A brand preference is the beginning of the conversation

Pinnacle’s roofing materials discuss TAMKO shingle options. If a TAMKO product is proposed for your home, ask which product line and color are included and why that option was selected. A brand name alone does not explain the installation or establish that it is the right choice for every roof. Compare the proposal with your budget, appearance goals, and property requirements.

Ask to see the supporting information

Request the current manufacturer product literature and the instructions relevant to the proposed roof. Ask the estimator to explain any claimed feature using those documents. Review a physical sample when available and ask how the installed appearance may differ from a small screen image.

• What is the exact product and color selection?
• Which companion materials are specified in this proposal?
• What application conditions need to be confirmed for my roof?
• Which warranty document applies to the selected assembly?
• What installation and registration records will I receive?

Compare complete proposals without a universal winner

If you are considering another option, ask for the same information so you can compare like scopes. Look at product selection, preparation, accessories, contractor responsibilities, exclusions, and care guidance. Ask the manufacturer directly about a product claim that remains unclear. You should be able to explain why the selected roof fits your project without relying on an unsupported claim that one shingle brand is best for every homeowner or always outperforms competitors.

Choose the shingle. Compare the whole system.

Architectural shingles form the visible surface of a layered roof. Compare the exact shingle alongside the starter, ridge products, underlayment and ventilation approach. A product’s impact classification or wind warranty describes specific tests or terms; it is not a promise that a home cannot suffer storm damage.

Separate package names from product names

Pinnacle’s Essential, Peace of Mind and Complete Protection packages identify Heritage, Titan XT and StormFighter FLEX shingles respectively. Use the written proposal to confirm the remaining components, scope and coverage. A package name does not independently establish warranty eligibility.
